Medical Scribe (Full-Time) – Oak Street Health

Location: Hybrid/Remote – Must reside in Arizona. Initial 90-day probationary period required, after which you may work remotely 2 days a week with Management Team approval. Onsite presence required 3 days a week.

Role Overview:

As a Medical Scribe at Oak Street Health, your primary role is to support our primary care providers with clinical documentation, allowing them to focus on delivering exceptional patient care. You will assist providers throughout the patient care journey, including planning, documenting, and follow-up.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Documenting Patient Encounters (~80%):

    • Observe patient visits in the exam room.
    • Document patient interactions, including history, assessment, plan, and physical exam.
    • Assign appropriate CPT and ICD-10 codes.
    • Prepare After Visit Summaries.
    • Consult with providers to ensure accurate and specific documentation.
  • Clinical Documentation Improvement (~10%):

    • Request and review medical records.
    • Use Oak Street’s population health tools to enhance clinical documentation.
    • Prepare for and support Daily Huddles and Clinical Documentation Reviews.
    • Consult with providers on documentation opportunities.
  • Administrative Support (~10%):

    • Place orders and referrals.
    • Address various tasks and support the care team with additional responsibilities related to clinical documentation.

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge:

    • Understanding of medical terminology and common medications (required).
    • Prior clinical experience (shadowing, volunteering) is strongly preferred.
    • Prior scribe or transcription experience is preferred but not required.
  • Skills:

    • Advanced listening and communication skills (required).
    • Strong computer literacy and adaptability to new technical workflows (required).
    • Fluency in Spanish, Polish, Russian, or other relevant languages is a plus.
  • Abilities:

    • Adapt to new workflows and quickly learn new concepts (required).
    • Typing speed of 70+ words per minute is strongly preferred.
    • Ability to take direction and work as part of a team (required).
    • Self-starter with excellent job attendance (required).
    • Commitment to the role for at least 1 year (2+ years ideal).
    • Ability to work approximately 40-45 hours per week with predictable hours and break times (required).
    • Compliance with HIPAA and hospital policies (required).
    • U.S. work authorization (required).
