Job Description for HCC Coder

Position: HCC Coder

Pay: $25.00 - $28.00 per hour (based on experience, location, education, and certifications)

Position Overview:
The HCC Coder is responsible for reviewing medical records and accurately assigning HCC codes based on the patient’s healthcare encounter. This role involves abstracting pertinent information, ensuring compliance with client guidelines, and entering real-time coded data into Aquity applications. Coders must also address any ambiguities or conflicts in the documentation by seeking clarification from physicians.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review medical records and assign appropriate HCC codes after thorough review, following client-specific guidelines.
  • Meet productivity and quality performance requirements while ensuring coding accuracy.
  • Enter coded charts in real-time using Aquity applications during shifts.
  • Request clarification from physicians regarding ambiguous or conflicting documentation.
  • Participate in team meetings, training, and potentially shadow other coders to enhance coding skills.
  • Maintain knowledge of official coding guidelines, Coding Clinic, and CPT Assistant, and complete required education modules.
  • Keep coding credentials current (CPC, COC, CRC, CCS, RHIT, or RHIA).
  • Contribute positively to company culture by exhibiting professionalism, adaptability, and respect.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: Experience in HCC coding, with expertise in abstracting information from medical records.
  • Certifications: Must hold one of the following credentials: CPC, COC, CRC, CCS, RHIT, or RHIA.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in medical coding and knowledge of clinical documentation.
  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Additional Skills: Flexibility to work across various client environments and specialties.

Working Environment:
Remote position with flexible working hours, subject to client needs.
