Job Title: Grad Intern - Lead Discovery & Characterization (Cell-based high-content imaging assays)

What You Will Do

Join Amgen's Lead Discovery & Characterization (LD&C) group as a grad intern and support cutting-edge drug discovery efforts. In this role, you'll be working on a project focused on the delivery of conjugated siRNA to non-hepatic cells, a critical step in advancing siRNA therapeutic approaches targeting non-hepatic tissues. The focus is to utilize RNA FISH (fluorescent in situ hybridization) assays to screen for regulators of siRNA delivery, contributing to Amgen's RNAi therapeutic advancements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Cell Culturing: Maintain and culture cells for experiments.
  • High-Throughput Assays: Learn and execute RNA FISH imaging assays on an automated platform.
  • siRNA Screening: Perform siRNA transfection in target cells and screen siRNA libraries for potential regulators.
  • Mechanism of Action Study: Continue studying siRNA delivery via receptors, assessing the impact of target gene knockdown.
  • Analysis: Analyze, interpret, and present results to internal teams.
  • Literature Review: Conduct a literature review and summarize project-related findings.
  • Collaboration: Engage in scientific discussions with colleagues and contribute to project outcomes.

What We Expect of You

Amgen seeks a highly motivated and hard-working graduate student with the following qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Graduated with a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.
  • Currently enrolled in an MBA, Master’s, PharmD, or Ph.D. program at an accredited institution, and have completed the first year of the program before the internship starts.
  • Located in the United States for the duration of the internship.
  • Must not be employed at the time the internship begins.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree concentration in Biochemistry, Bioengineering, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, or related field.
  • Strong cell culture skills with experience in siRNA transfection.
  • Background in cell-based assay development; experience with high-content imaging assays is a plus.
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical issues and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively.
