Formulary Maintenance Specialist

Overview: The Formulary Maintenance Specialist plays a crucial role in supporting clinical pharmacists by managing and maintaining formularies for pharmacy benefit management. This position also assists with the residency program and pharmacy students, as directed by the Formulary Operations Manager. Due to the sensitive nature of the role, it is classified as highly confidential.

Locations: Maxor employs over 1,000 team members across the U.S. in various settings, including pharmacies, hospitals, and corporate offices, bringing together diverse experiences and perspectives.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with clinical pharmacists to build and maintain independent formularies.
  • Conduct formulary comparisons to standard practices and stay updated on drug recalls and new medications.
  • Organize and maintain schedules for pharmacy students and residents.
  • Assist with the residency program in collaboration with management.
  • Support clinical pharmacy staff in generating client reports, including report creation and finalization.
  • Serve as a liaison between clinical pharmacy staff and other departments such as IT and Customer Service.
  • Handle formulary coverage inquiries and assist in preparing materials for Clinical Advisory Board (CAB) meetings.
  • Review and maintain prior authorization criteria and interact with healthcare professionals regarding prior authorizations.
  • Generate and distribute formulary alternative lists, maintenance drug lists, and new drug market lists.
  • Help create, revise, and maintain departmental policies and procedures.
  • Proofread and format documents as needed.
  • Access Protected Health Information (PHI) in compliance with regulations.
  • Schedule meetings and facilitate arrangements, including coordinating video/conference calls.
  • Report any compliance issues to the Compliance Department and adhere to Maxor's Ethical Business Conduct policy.
  • Complete required training within established timeframes and maintain regular attendance.

Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent; Licensed Pharmacy Technician required.
  • Experience: 5+ years of pharmacy experience; experience in PBM or healthcare is a plus.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and internet search tools.
  • Ability to work independently or collaboratively in a friendly corporate environment.
  • Adaptability to changing priorities and workload.
  • Strong attention to detail and proofreading skills.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology and drug classifications.
