Description of Work Unit:

The Department of Environmental and Radiological Health Sciences is a leading institution in environmental health, integrating radiological health into its core curriculum. The department focuses on how environmental and workplace exposures impact health and seeks solutions to mitigate these effects. It investigates both natural and built environments, with a specific emphasis on the biological effects of radiation and its clinical applications.

Position Summary:

The Schaeffer Lab is seeking a summer intern to support fieldwork and laboratory research on a project studying bioaerosol exposures among cattle workers. The role involves interacting with study participants, administering oscillometry, and assisting with various research tasks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Field Research: Assist with exposure assessments and administer oscillometry.
  • Laboratory Work: Conduct microbial assessments, manage databases, perform QA/QC of data, and contribute to drafting abstracts, summaries, reports, and manuscripts.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Knowledge in physical, biological, and analytical sciences.
  • Experience with basic laboratory principles, techniques, and equipment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with PCR, DNA/RNA sequencing, and fundamental statistical analyses using R Studio.
  • Proficiency in data management.

Salary Range: $15-17 per hour
