Job Summary:

Novartis is seeking a Director of Statistical Programming to lead, oversee, and coordinate all statistical programming activities, resources, and deliverables. This role is instrumental in driving innovation, process efficiency, and compliance while ensuring statistical programming remains best-in-class in the industry.

As a functional leader within Advanced Quantitative Sciences (AQS), you will contribute to the strategic development and continuous improvement of statistical programming within Early Development. This role requires strong leadership, collaboration, and technical expertise to mentor teams, implement efficiency measures, and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.

This position offers a hybrid working model, requiring 3 days per week or 12 days per month in the London Office.


Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Strategic Development

  • Lead statistical programming efforts within AQS Early Development, ensuring alignment with strategic imperatives, quality, and productivity targets.
  • Develop and implement future strategies and processes to foster innovation, efficiency, and knowledge-sharing across Novartis.
  • Identify and drive capability enhancements (e.g., R programming, Disease Area expertise).
  • Oversee the adoption of emerging technologies while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Contribute to global clinical and non-clinical projects, leading initiatives to enhance functional excellence.

Team Development & Performance Management

  • Recruit, develop, and mentor high-performing statistical programming associates.
  • Manage performance feedback, professional development, and training programs to ensure continuous skill enhancement.
  • Establish a culture of collaboration, quality, and trust within the statistical programming team.
  • In partnership with P&O (People & Organization), develop strategies to attract and retain top talent globally.

Compliance & Regulatory Readiness

  • Ensure all statistical programming activities comply with Novartis, AQS, and industry standards (e.g., CDISC).
  • Maintain audit readiness and participate in Health Authority inspections.
  • Monitor early development projects to ensure adherence to regulatory expectations and compliance.

Operational Excellence & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with Operations Heads to manage resourcing, metrics, and budgeting.
  • Foster seamless collaboration with partner groups across Novartis.
  • Drive productivity and efficiency improvements to enhance delivery timelines and meet business objectives.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Life Sciences, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field.
  • Industry Experience:
    • Minimum 12 years in Drug Development, including at least 10 years in Statistical Programming.
    • At least 7+ years in a leadership or matrix management role.
  • Technical & Industry Expertise:
    • Strong understanding of clinical trial methodology, GCP (Good Clinical Practice), and medical terminology.
    • Experience in at least one therapeutic area (TA): Immunology, Cardiovascular & Metabolic Diseases, or Neuroscience.
    • Expertise in data science, statistical analysis, and programming languages.
  • Leadership & Collaboration:
    • Proven ability to manage multiple deliverables and meet deadlines.
    • Strong people management skills, including mentorship, coaching, and performance evaluation.
    • Ability to drive innovation and implement best-in-class programming solutions.
