Job Description:
As the Director Principal Patient Safety Scientist, you will be accountable for the performance and results of a team responsible for Patient Safety deliverables for marketed products. You will lead your team in the development of strategies and objectives, ensuring alignment with broader AstraZeneca goals. You will also oversee the review and approval of key drug safety documents and act as the drug safety expert within your team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of Patient Safety professionals at a local level.
  • Develop and/or support the development of Patient Safety strategies and objectives, ensuring alignment with AstraZeneca’s overall goals.
  • Stay informed on internal and external trends impacting Patient Safety, sharing insights with the team.
  • Build and maintain networks with internal teams and external stakeholders to leverage opportunities and best practices.
  • Manage or support projects aimed at improving Patient Safety processes and introducing new technologies or approaches.
  • Ensure compliance with Good Clinical and Pharmacovigilance Practice (GCP), Safety Health and Environment (SHE) standards, and all relevant regulations.

Additional Accountabilities:

  • Oversee the input of SSaMT into projects and manage line and resource management.
  • Deputize for the PV Science Director as required.
  • Lead and manage the recruitment, development, and retention of talent within the team.
  • Ensure full implementation of Patient Safety and Global Medical Development (GMD) strategic change programs.
  • Share best practices across teams within Patient Safety.
  • Collaborate with the QPPV and QPPV office, as well as the PS Risk Management Group.
  • Serve as a key member of the local leadership team, partnering with Senior PV Medical Directors.
  • Lead or participate in local/global change or improvement projects.

People Management Responsibility:

  • Manage a team of approximately 10–12 people at various levels.

Education, Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:

Essential:

  • Medical degree.
  • Experience in Patient Safety within the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Project management experience.
  • Knowledge of relevant pharmaceutical industry legislation and developments.
  • Medical or life science degree, or equivalent qualifications as a healthcare professional.
  • PV Professional (Scientist) experience.
  • Experience in writing Risk Management Plans or translating preclinical safety experience to human clinical development.

Desirable:

  • Ph.D. in a relevant scientific discipline.
