The Department of Dermatology at Stanford University is a leading academic and research department focused on clinical care, medical education, and research. Stanford Dermatology Clinical Research is a rapidly growing team that supports translational medicine and contributes to Stanford Medicine’s mission.


Position Summary

The Clinical Research Manager (CRM) will provide leadership and oversight for dermatology-related clinical trials and research projects. This role involves managing clinical operations, ensuring regulatory compliance, and overseeing research personnel while working closely with Principal Investigators, Clinical Research Managers, and Program Managers.

This hybrid position is based at Stanford Redwood City (SRWC) Campus and requires both on-site and remote work based on operational needs.


Key Responsibilities

Clinical Research Operations & Oversight

  • Hire, train, and conduct performance reviews for clinical research staff.

  • Supervise study protocol implementation and ensure adherence to research policies and procedures.

  • Oversee participant recruitment, retention strategies, and informed consent processes.

  • Manage Institutional Review Board (IRB) submissions, protocol renewals, and regulatory compliance with agencies like FDA and CSTA.

  • Assist with Investigational New Drug (IND) applications and regulatory submissions.

Quality Control & Compliance

  • Audit research operations and laboratory procedures to ensure regulatory compliance.

  • Implement corrective actions as needed based on audits.

  • Monitor Institutional Review Board (IRB) submissions and respond to inquiries.

Financial & Grant Management

  • Provide leadership in grant writing and research funding opportunities.

  • Oversee financial management of clinical trials, including internal and external budgeting.

  • Act as liaison between sponsors, department accounting, and Stanford Research Management Group.

Strategic Leadership & Collaboration

  • Lead or participate in committees and task forces to resolve research challenges.

  • Engage in high-level networking and outreach to promote research initiatives.

  • Analyze recruitment trends and ensure minimal competition among trials.

  • Assist in data analysis, manuscript preparation, and scientific presentations.

Other duties may be assigned based on departmental needs.


Required Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field + 5 years of clinical research experience, OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Master’s degree preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Smartsheet, and Notion.

  • Experience with research protocols, regulatory compliance (HIPAA, FDA, IRB, GCP).

  • Managerial experience in clinical research.

  • Knowledge of medical terminology.

Preferred Certifications

  • Society of Clinical Research Associates (SOCRA) or Association of Clinical Research Professionals (ACRP) certification preferred.


Physical Requirements

  • Frequently stand, walk, bend, and use fine motor skills.

  • Occasionally sit, use a computer, and lift up to 40 lbs.

  • Rarely kneel, crawl, or lift objects over 40 lbs.
