Title: Clinical Coder IV – Acute Care (Remote)

Location: Remote (Must reside in Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Kansas, Maine, North Carolina, South Carolina, Vermont, or Virginia)

Type: Direct Hire/Permanent

Degree Requirements: Associate degree or equivalent experience

Certification Requirements:

  • Current RHIA, RHIT, or CCS certification is required.
  • Must pass a coding test administered by the hiring manager after a successful first-round interview.

Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum of 4 years of current acute care inpatient coding experience.

Interview Process:

  • Phone screening with the hiring manager.
  • Interview and coding test.

Job Summary: As a Clinical Coder IV – Acute Care, you will review clinical documentation and diagnostic results to extract and abstract data, applying appropriate ICD-9-CM/ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT-4 codes for reimbursement, regulatory compliance, and other reporting purposes. You will ensure accurate coding and compliance with various regulatory guidelines, including CCI, NCCI, and others.

Responsibilities:

  • Code and abstract high-complexity medical records within Primary Enterprise acute care facilities.
  • Identify and assign principal and secondary diagnosis and procedure codes.
  • Facilitate MS-DRG and APC assignments using UHDDS and facility guidelines.
  • Utilize facility encoders and EMR systems effectively.
  • Review charges and Evaluation and Management levels.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office and coding software.
  • Abstract and input coded data accurately in the electronic health record.
  • Meet quality and productivity standards.
  • Provide peer review and training support for Acute Clinical Coders.
  • Stay updated on coding principles and regulatory guidelines.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to concentrate and sit for long periods while reviewing electronic health records.
  • Meet daily and weekly deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Required Skills:

  • Advanced knowledge of Medical Terminology, Anatomy, Physiology, and Pharmacology.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

Education:

  • Associate degree required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Current RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CPC-H, CPC, or CIC certification required, along with a passing score on the coding test.
