This role is responsible for managing client projects by designing synthetic routes and synthesizing molecules as per client specifications. The work may be performed independently or with supervision of a team of chemists.

Responsibilities:

  • Synthesis & Reactions:

    • Set up and execute reactions for the synthesis of target molecules.
    • Understand project requirements and deliverables from the manager as specified by the client.
    • Search relevant literature and understand the reaction protocol.
    • Delegate tasks and monitor team members for effective planning, execution, and delivery.
  • Safety & Compliance:

    • Understand and discuss Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) with team members.
    • Identify and mitigate potential safety risks with the help of the supervisor.
    • Follow safety protocols, ensure good laboratory practices, and monitor the usage of equipment.
  • Execution & Monitoring:

    • Plan and execute reactions with appropriate reagents and equipment (e.g., glassware, stirrers, vacuum pumps), maintaining specified conditions (temperature, pressure, etc.).
    • Ensure parallel execution of multiple reactions and monitor progress using analytical techniques.
    • Choose the right workup and purification techniques to produce the desired intermediates/final compounds.
  • Data Analysis & Reporting:

    • Analyze analytical data, evaluate and interpret results from synthesis, and prepare reports.
    • Meet productivity benchmarks (reaction count, quality, compound purity, timelines).
    • Support the project manager in estimating project deliverables and risks.
    • Prepare weekly, monthly, and final reports as required.
  • Team Management & Skill Development:

    • Guide and mentor a team of chemists to meet quality and productivity targets.
