Job Title: Medical Coder

Location: New York (On-site training for 2-3 weeks, then remote with occasional on-site meetings)

Shift: Monday – Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM


Job Summary

This role involves medical coding in an acute care setting, requiring proficiency in computer skills (e.g., MS Word, Excel, ICD-9 CM, CPT 4, Encoder). The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of coding guidelines, payor guidelines, federal billing guidelines, and knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and disease processes. The ability to research coding-related issues and provide coder training is essential. Candidates must have a CCS certification and be familiar with the 3M/HIS coding application. Experience with inpatient and emergency department (ED) coding is required.

Key Skills:

  • Minimum of three years of experience with ICD-10 coding.
  • Proficient knowledge of coding guidelines, payor guidelines, and federal billing guidelines.
  • Ability to research and resolve coding-related issues.
  • Competence in coder training and education.
  • Experience with 3M/HIS coding application.
  • Inpatient and emergency department coding experience.

Education and Certifications:

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Certifications: AHIMA, RHIA, or RHIT certification and/or CPC, CCS certification through the AHIMA Credentialing Authority.

Work Schedule and Location:

  • Training: On-site for 2-3 weeks to acquire equipment and complete training.
  • Remote Work: After training, the role transitions to remote work, with occasional on-site meetings as needed.
  • Location Requirement: Must be based in New York.
