Position Summary

The Associate Vice President (AVP) - Medical Development - Obesity is responsible for leading all activities within the obesity therapeutic area of global development, including strategic planning, clinical research, and commercialization support. The role involves managing a team, overseeing clinical plans, budgets, and execution, and ensuring alignment with global patient safety and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

Career Development and Performance Management:

  • Oversee career development, performance management, and coaching for direct reports.

  • Develop performance and career development plans, manage progress, and identify areas for improvement.

  • Ensure adequate training and qualifications for team members.

Clinical Planning, Budgeting, and Execution:

  • Ensure that clinical plans are aligned with research and business units.

  • Monitor and take corrective actions on clinical research progress and budget compliance.

  • Oversee clinical trial activities, publications, and strategic initiatives.

Scientific and Technical Expertise:

  • Provide technical oversight for all clinical research activities.

  • Promote innovation in study design, implementation, and shared learning.

  • Keep updated on competitive products and relevant medical developments.

Scientific Data Dissemination:

  • Lead publication plans and activities.

  • Oversee clinical trial data dissemination and scientific congress participation.

Regulatory and Submission Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that clinical data meets regulatory standards for global registrations and labeling.

  • Participate in advisory committees and escalate drug safety issues.

Administrative and Leadership Responsibilities:

  • Review and approve business documents related to clinical trials, protocols, and grants.

  • Provide leadership in strategic planning, staff recruitment, and process improvements.

  • Lead or support transition coordination (pre-launch to post-launch).

Recruitment and Team Development:

  • Determine human resource needs and oversee recruitment for the development area.

  • Lead successful recruitment of clinical research physicians or scientists.

Education and Experience

  • Medical Doctor or Doctor of Osteopathy.

  • Board eligibility or certification in the appropriate specialty/subspecialty.

  • 3-5 years of experience in clinical research/drug development, including Phase 3 global clinical trials.

  • Supervisory experience with demonstrated ability to lead groups of physicians or research scientists.

Additional Skills/Preferences

  • Experience in Phase 3 Obesity Drug Development and Pediatric drug development.

  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.

  • Ability to work within Lilly’s governance and cross-functional structure.

Compensation

  • Anticipated Salary: $274,500 - $402,600 annually.

  • Eligible for company bonus program (based on company and individual performance).
