Job Title: Associate Vice President, Clinical Research Practice (Remote Eligible)

Westat's Health Sector is seeking an Associate Vice President (AVP) to join our leadership team within the Clinical Research Practice. This is a key leadership role responsible for driving business development, client management, project leadership, and expansion of our portfolio within the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and other federal agencies, particularly the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience leading business development initiatives, managing large-scale clinical research projects, and securing contracts with federal agencies. The AVP will play a vital role in expanding Westat’s presence in the clinical research sector, providing strategic direction, and overseeing the execution of high-impact clinical trials support services.
Leadership & Strategy:
Serve on the Clinical Research Practice’s leadership team, fostering growth and implementing initiatives to ensure a culture of excellence, quality, and continuous improvement.
Business Development:
Lead business development efforts and capture strategies to expand Westat's clinical research services within HHS agencies, including NIH and other federal organizations.
Client Relationship Management:
Build and maintain strong relationships with federal clients to identify and secure new business opportunities, ensuring Westat remains a trusted partner.
Project Oversight:
Direct and manage large clinical trial support services contracts or a series of smaller projects, overseeing the design, data collection, analysis, and publication phases.
Team Leadership & Mentorship:
Lead and mentor a team of clinical research professionals, fostering an innovative and collaborative environment while ensuring the team’s billability and success.
Cross-Practice Collaboration:
Collaborate with other practices and serve as a thought leader internally and externally, sharing expertise and driving innovative solutions across the organization.
Industry Representation:
Represent Westat at industry conferences, workshops, and networking events, promoting our clinical research capabilities and expertise.
Educational Background:
Master’s degree in biological sciences, clinical research, public health, or a related field (PhD and/or PMP preferred).
Experience:
10+ years of progressive project and team leadership experience in clinical research, with a successful track record in business development and government contracting, specifically with NIH and/or FDA.
Regulatory Knowledge:
Deep understanding of U.S. government regulatory compliance, including Human Subjects Protections and Good Clinical Practice (GCP).
Mentorship & Leadership:
Proven experience mentoring and leading research staff at all levels.
Communication Skills:
Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple complex projects and business activities simultaneously.
Organizational Skills:
Highly organized, detail-oriented, proactive, and capable of working independently and in teams to foster a collaborative, inclusive, and innovative work environment.
