Job Title: Editorial Manager

Job Description Summary:

The Editorial Manager oversees the daily operations of the Editorial department or assigned brand(s). This role involves ensuring quality control of all projects from inception to completion, and managing resources to meet the fluctuating workload demands of the brand editors. The manager will also handle editorial responsibilities for their own accounts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement departmental and company procedures.
  • Act as a champion for the Editorial department.
  • Collaborate with other department heads and brand teams to allocate editorial resources.
  • Assign product responsibilities to editors and proofreaders.
  • Coordinate freelancer schedules and adjust departmental resources to address staffing needs or increased workloads.
  • Perform editing tasks including proofreading, fact-checking, and styling promotional print pieces in accordance with AMA and client guidelines.
  • Establish and maintain departmental policies and procedures, including updates from clients, FDA, and AMA.
  • Ensure budgetary goals are met and expenses are controlled for assigned brands.
  • Motivate and inform staff of procedural changes.
  • Maintain editorial style consistency for each assigned brand.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide staff training.
  • Engage with clients to resolve issues and establish relevant policies and guidelines.

Background/Experience and Skills:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a pharmaceutical/healthcare advertising agency.
  • Previous supervisory experience or equivalent demonstrated skills.
  • Relevant medical education experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of AMA style (11th edition) and familiarity with FDA regulations.
  • Bachelor’s or graduate degree in a related field.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, including Word and PowerPoint; comfort with Acrobat.
  • Strong internet search capabilities.
