Job Title: Area Sales Manager

Location: Patna, Bihar, India


Job Overview

The Area Sales Manager will lead sales operations, drive product awareness, and manage visibility and merchandising efforts across the assigned area. Reporting to the Zonal Business Manager, the role involves sales strategy development, forecasting, distributor management, team development, and maintaining alignment with company goals.


Key Responsibilities

Drive Business Strategy and Processes

  • Develop and implement business strategies and action plans for territory improvement.
  • Assign sales targets based on territory potential and available resources.
  • Forecast sales at monthly and quarterly levels and monitor team performance.
  • Conduct joint fieldwork to train and enable team members in maximizing retailer and distributor engagement.
  • Address and resolve customer complaints.
  • Coordinate with HO teams for brand-related activities, supply chain, finance, and HR.

Infrastructure Management

  • Develop efficient distribution networks by appointing distributors and maintaining stock levels.
  • Oversee timely billing and collections.
  • Manage CFA (Carrying and Forwarding Agent) operations.

Team Handling and Development

  • Mentor and coach team members to align their performance with business objectives.
  • Manage and develop Territory Sales Officers (TSOs), Territory Sales Incharges (TSIs), and Sales Officers (SOs).
  • Enable team members to achieve sales incentives.
  • Ensure timely reporting through company-prescribed formats.
  • Conduct induction and on-the-job training for new hires.
  • Participate in competency-based recruitment with Zonal HR.

Qualifications and Experience

Education

  • Graduate (Mandatory) + MBA/PGDBM (Preferred).

Experience

  • Minimum 4–10 years of sales experience in FMCG, OTC, or Pharma industries.
  • Extensive experience managing large sales teams and operations.

Skills Required

  • People Management: Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Team Management: Proven ability to manage and motivate a sales team.
  • Negotiation: Effective in handling negotiations with stakeholders.
  • Problem Solving: Analytical approach to identifying and resolving challenges.
