Job Title: Clinical Pharmacy Specialist
Facility: Dayton Children’s – Main Campus

Schedule: Full-Time (40 hours per week)


Job Summary

The Clinical Pharmacy Specialist promotes the safe and effective use of medications through collaboration with the pharmacy team, prescribers, and the multidisciplinary healthcare team within a defined practice area. This role supports the department's mission by ensuring safe medication therapy for pediatric patients and addressing drug-related issues through identification, resolution, and prevention.

The Clinical Pharmacy Specialist provides individualized pharmaceutical care services, including patient assessment, age- and disease-specific drug therapy planning, patient education, and monitoring responses to treatment. This position also identifies and prevents medication-related adverse events through clinical interventions.

Additionally, the Specialist acts as a departmental resource and liaison, contributing to quality patient care, education, and research. They serve on multidisciplinary committees, represent the pharmacy department, and precept pharmacy residents and students. This role includes developing service line-specific drug policies, promoting cost-effective medication use strategies, and collaborating with the healthcare team to achieve high-quality patient outcomes in the pediatric setting.


Responsibilities

  • Deliver comprehensive pharmaceutical care tailored to pediatric patients in assigned areas.
  • Assess patient needs and incorporate age- and disease-specific considerations into drug therapy and education.
  • Monitor and adjust care based on patient responses to therapy.
  • Perform clinical interventions to detect, mitigate, and prevent medication adverse events.
  • Develop and maintain drug use policies and cost-effective medication strategies for specific service lines.
  • Represent the pharmacy department on multidisciplinary committees.
  • Serve as a preceptor for pharmacy residents and students.
  • Act as a departmental resource and collaborate with other departments, hospital staff, and external groups.
  • Support quality patient care, education, and research in pediatric settings.

Education Requirements

  • Required:
    • Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy

Licensure Requirements

  • Required:
    • Eligible for licensure as a pharmacist in the State of Ohio (must obtain licensure prior to start date)

Experience Requirements

  • Completion of one of the following:
    • PGY2 Pharmacy Residency in Pediatrics or a relevant specialty (ASHP-accredited)
    • PGY1 Pharmacy Residency with a pediatric focus (ASHP-accredited)
    • Four years of hospital experience with pediatric patients
